Aurah -> *Loud, this tavern was. The clangs of steins as the patrons cheered on their catch of the day, the scraps of forks against pewter plates as mediocre meals were consumed, boots against the wooden floor as they moved about. The smells made the nose of the caster twitch and wiggle, those cerulean orbs lowered in displeasure. A sigh passed from her full lips as she made her way through the hustle and lowered herself at an empty table. She must have been a sight to see, what with her capacious costume. That gown swayed along the ground, something that made her scoff and attempt to adjust the attire so it did not pick up the droppings upon the untidy floor. The hue of her clothing mirrored that of her deep eyes and tumbling tresses, bouncing gently at her back side. Lacey at the appropriate ends was her dress, giving her the appearance of someone of high station. Whether she was or not she would not state, it was none of anyone's business. The looks thrown in her direction were meant with a narrowing further of her irises, stating plainly on her visage that she did not welcome their gazes. A grumble, putting one leg over the other and waiting for some kind of service. Shifting the satchel at her side to put it more securely in front of her, protecting the unknown contents.*
Valerian -> *The door was kicked in, causing a sudden and short silence to fall over the bar as a majority of the people looked over to see who or what had caused the interruption in their merrymaking. Several greetings were shouted out across the building as people recognized one of the regulars walk in. The man gave a half hearted wave in the general direction of the majority of the people before moving to the bar and taking a seat as far from the others as he could, which might come as a surprise to some that were first seeing him as he had a seemingly unnecessary amount of swords strapped over his body. Without saying so much as a word between them, a small bag was dropped on the counter and the bar tender dropped a large bottle and a mug before him. He spun around on his stool and leaned against the bar, making a slow and steady sweep across the populace of the bar.* Anyone here worth a damn tonight? Or is it just the usual rabble? *It wasn’t exactly clear who he was talking to, but it could be assumed that he was speaking to the bartender since no one else was near.*
Aurah -> *When the clamor came to a halt, for at least a few seconds, it drew the witch's attention towards the entrance she had just used not but a minute ago. A rapid set of blinks graced the man before she drew it back to the tomes spread over the table. A numerous amout of them. It was more than someone should be reading at once. In fact, a few of them were floating above the table. Just a few centimeters. Pages were turning of their own volition, even her eyes strayed once again onto the man. The patrons were familiar with him. This place must be pretty tight knit. A place she shouldnt be then. They would know she didnt belong. If it wasnt her whole presence it was her attire. Her clothing she could not help, the threads gave her power. Its why she sought other means. She could not hide from those who sought her when she stuck out like a sore thumb. Her power was drained from travel. Hopefully none of the agents were about, or she would be in a pickle. A clearing of her throat focused her thoughts from her fears and back on the books, though irritation still showed clear. Who did she have to flash to get some service around here? Not that she would ever debase herself so. When the man gave the bartender funds for his drink her brows rose. Money! What was the currency here?! By the spell she might not have the money to pay for food! Or a place to stay for that matter. That meant finding another nest to curl up in. A deep sigh she passed before standing up abruptly. Her lapse of attention caused the books to cease levitation and fall rather noisily upon the floor, along with other baubles and scrolls. She cried out in dismay and anger, cursing in a language all her own and dropping to the ground. The dress fluffing out as she tried to gather her belongings. The quicker she did, the sooner she could leave.*
Valerian -> *The man muttered something to himself as he continued looking around, his eyes moving right past the girl which had caused the commotion, obviously deciding she wasn’t what he was looking for this day. He spun around on the stool and quickly snatched up the mug and bottle before heading right to the table the girl with all the scrolls was. Without so much as a word he sat down and opened the bottle, filling the mug with the drink before sliding it across the table towards her.* Obviously, you’re new around here. So I’ll give you a little advice. Clothing like that will only get you into trouble in areas not constantly patrolled by the castle guards. And if you hadn’t noticed, there have been a few…..gentlemen…..giving you the eye. *even as he spoke he didn’t bother looking at her, merely twisted the bottle around in his hand, staring off into space.*
Aurah -> *Was he speaking to her? He was. And in that tone! Did he know who she was? No, obviously not or he would not have talked to her that way. Then again, no one knew who she was here. And thats the way it had to stay if she was going to keep breathing. He was looking for her. Even know she could swear she could feel his eyes, or those of his spies, upon her back. Boring into her being, seizing at her movement. Why did just the mere thought of him make her like this? She trembled, her fine nails scraping at the floor as they curled into fists.* I...thank you for your advice. *She gazed up at the cup that was offered to her, straightening her spine just slightly. Her knees still on the floor, dirtying the fabric just a bit.* Then these are not gentlemen, are they? *Though her tone would have one think she did not mind these fellows or their lustful stares anyone of them could be in league with him. She could not take this so lightly. A clearing of her throat tried to make her tones more appreciative, but her noble upbringing betrayed her. Still she sounded SLIGHTLY grateful* Do you know of a....reputable inn that I may rest in for.....nevermind *The no money part, she almost forgot. Biting her lip, she bent down to continue loading up the shimmering orbs into her bag, grabbing books swiftly. Her pace quickening one a "gentleman" or two came to stand in front of her.* Hello there miss. Can we give you a hand? *Aurah snatched up one of the remaining books and shook her head without a thought, not giving them so much as a look* No thank you. *One last one and she could be out of here! Here delicate fingers reached for the tome but her progress was stopped by a dirty boot upon her possession* Are you sure ma'am? Maybe afterwards you could have a few drinks with us? Check out my ship maybe?
Aurah -> once a*
Valerian -> *He chuckled.* This lot has probably never heard that word before. I was just trying to keep the conversation……….civil. Though I could dispense with that if you wish and revert to my normal mannerisms. *He paused for a few seconds.* Well………I wouldn’t call it reputable. But there’s an inn I stay at, run by a pair of sisters. They’d treat you right and they’re not shy about taking in someone with something to hide. *He stayed where he was seated as she hurried to continue collecting her scrolls and his gaze finally left the bottle he was holding and shifted to the mug which she had ignored. He didn’t even bother moving when she was approached by the guys which he assumed were sailors since they weren’t regulars in this place as anyone who knew him did their best to leave him and anyone he was with alone unless they were sure they could make it worth his time.* Well, do enjoy the rest of your stay in our lovely city. *He stood and placed his index and middle finger against his forehead in sort of a half salute and turned his back on the situation he had just warned her of since it wasn’t really his problem.*
Aurah -> *Aurah's eyes widened in disbelief as the man strode away. Where was the chivalry in this horrid place? But he did know of a place she could stay! She would have to catch up with him! He knew this place! Maybe he could help her?* Your ship. Yeah, sure. Excuse me. *The witch snatched the book from his heel and stood amazingly quick. The force enough to knock the man off his balance and send him to the ground. By the time he had regained his balance the woman had left the premises and was chasing off the sword strapped gentleman* Excuse me! *She called out, doing her best to catch up while keeping her dress from skirting along the dirty streets* Please! That inn! Where may it be?!
Valerian -> *He ignored her for the first few seconds of her calling after him but soon stopped to allow her to catch up.* Decided not to go see their ship huh? Pity for them. Follow me, the inn’s not far from here. *With that, he started walking again, only straying from his path to avoid various stalls and make room for the occasional guard patrol they ran into, always turning his face away from them as they passed, though one would think his attire would be enough for him to be recognized if they were actually looking for him.* What are you running from exactly? I know that look, more people around here have it than you might think.
Aurah -> *Aurah caught that, the deliberate attempt to stray away from the vision of the keepers of the law. She did not question it. The caster did not need anything severing her bond with this man. As fragile as it may be for now. Her power was at its minimum, her knowledge of this place just as. She was vulnerable here, just like she was at every other place. Oh, how she missed her home.* An overzealous man. I would go into detail but you dont seem like the type to care. I still....appreciate your assistance. But...I must confess that I may not have the monetary means for a place in this inn of yours. Is there....any other means of compensation? Besides ones of the flesh! *The latter was spoken quickly, and with a tone that left no room for argument. She still had her morals after all. A string of her tongue along her lips and a furrowing of her brow before she sighed with defeat* But I do have a few things I can sell. Valuable things. *Though they were given to her for that purpose she did not what to part with them. One of the few things she had left from home. She kept his pace and followed his every step, irises darting to and fro to ensure they were not followed.*
Valerian -> *He paused as she mentioned other methods of payment and turned to face here with a cocked eyebrow.* I did mention this place was run by a pair of sisters didn’t I? While I’m not sure what their orientation is……….I don’t think they’ve ever accepted an offering of the flesh as payment. Be it actual flesh or…………….other. *He turned and started walking again.* Plus, I said they tend to take in people in trouble, that usually implies not paying. *He finally came to a stop in front of a two story building that sat just at the edge of a stone covered road.* A shame, if they had gotten one building up the street they could have charged double for their rooms. If you plan on being in the area a while, you might very well have to sell what you have. There are plenty of people willing to pay for almost anything. Don’t count on the kindness of strangers in this place to show up often, because it doesn’t happen.
Aurah -> *The kindness of strangers was all she was depending on, all she had been. If it stops now what was she to do? Leave? But could she run forever? No, he would not have her doing that. she still had a little bit of her pride left. But, what was she to do? He was much more powerful than she was, with a plethora of resources. Why couldnt she just say yes? Because that would mean the end. No, she still had hundreds of years of her life left. Another roll of her tongue of her lips after a sigh was uttered. Relieved. These sisters would not be sorry for allowing her to stay, if they did anyway* Obviously, I cannot mooch of these kind people forever... *Like she already had been to others* ...do you know of a more permanent place of residence I could acquire? Or...would have you already sought it out if you knew? *She was traipsing at his side now, casting her blues at him at every chance she could get. It was as if she was gauging his reactions, making sure she wasnt asking anything out of line. Again, he was the only person she had right now.*
Valerian -> I’m usually not around in one area long enough to need anything more than an inn………..though I have been here a while. This is the closest place to a home I have, but even this is more than I need. *He frowned slightly as he spoke.* There’s always a place showing up for sale……..I wouldn’t recommend any of them since they come to be that way through murder or various other types of death. If you’re looking for something……..more fitting to your attire, which I assume is what you’re used to. You’ll need a good chuck of coin to get something uptown where the guards actually care what happens to the people, or try one of the other cities. I hear Nev’r is nice………if you can survive the trip there.
Aurah -> *A frown surfaced then, and she did her best to bite her lip. Restraining any words that would make this man cease any kindness he had already bestowed upon her. Again with the dress. If she could change its appearance she would, but he made certain that she could not. This way he could find her easier. She let it slide, clutching the soft fabric of her threads tighter underneath her nails* No, no Im no condition to make such a trip. These...slums will be fine for now. Thank you. Besides, I need to find a way to conceal my appearance. None of my...usual means have had any effect. *Then an idea struck her. It was a longshot, but she had to make sure it was an option. She would need something, someone until she was at full strength. And that would be a while* May I ask....your occupation? Since we are getting to know each other and all. *The more she spoke the more he could find a hint of an accent. Another tell that she was not from around there, or anywhere near there at all.*
Amaar -> -Amaar sat cross-legged in the clearing. His hood pulled over his head. A slightly ominous figure to the un-aware. His eyes closed, a slight hum could be heard if someone got too close to him. His body gave off a warmth that could be felt from a ways away. A strange man indeed-
Valerian -> You have no idea how far the trip is………but I wouldn’t think you’re in the proper condition to survive it, though I’ve learned to never judge people in this world by the way they look. Some of the strongest people I’ve seen look the weakest. *He cocked an eyebrow unsure why it would be so hard to change her appearance.* The best way to change your look would be to get rid of that fancy ass dress, or head uptown where people dress that way. My occupation…………? If you’re going to hide out here, you’re going to need to dumb down your vocabulary as well. If you didn’t notice people don’t…..*he cleared his throat* don’t speak all fancy like. They speak short and blunt when they have to. I guess you could call me a mercenary? I do odd jobs for the…………for people.
Amaar -> -He opens his eyes. Scanning the imediate area, he sees nothing. Amaar stands to his feet- Too quiet....-he begins walking to the city, feeling for anything interesting. Not wanting local Law enforcment aware of his presence in the city he scales a wall away from the entrance. When he lands on the other side he sees a man and a women, on instinct he ducks behind the closest bit of cover he can find and removes his hood from his face to get a better look. The man looked like a force to be reckoned with, the women a fancy Prim and Propper lady, he cocked his eyebrow.- What the hell could they be talking about.
Aurah -> I cannot change the dress. It...is keeping me alive. It was a gift for my birthday, but little do I know that it was cursed. Now I cannot remove it for long periods of time. To sleep, and to bathe. Ive tried to wear other things, simpler things. But, then I feel the life drain out of me. My..life is now tied to it. Ive tried using my powers to alter its appearance but it that endeavor does nothing but drain me. No, until I return to him this is what I am to wear at all times. Any other time...well of course Im nude. *The admittance of her past was not something she was willing to share with a man she had only known for a few minutes, but she had no choice. Especially if she did not want him to keep cracking on her about the dress. She wanted him to understand.* Understood. But...you are asking me to undo hundreds of years of upbringing. It will not be immediate. But I will try. *She was in more danger than she realized. She passed by some, their eyes betraying their standing. These people were poor. And though she was as well she did not look so. She was a prime target.* Im afraid that I may need your assistance for more than tonight. As you can see Im helpless. I need someone to help me get better acquainted here. At least until I get my bearings....and...your ability with the sword may come in handy as well. I can..I can hire you! You can get half of whatever I sell! I just...need to live for a little while longer.... *Her tones grew low, if he had not been so close he probably would not have caught a word* For my people if not for myself. I know you probably do not care about either of these things...but Im sure for money you may be persuaded. *She did not mean to make sound as horrible as it was. Brows furrowing deeply in worry as she awaited his reply, digits digging deeper in her gown. Clutching it higher above the dirty ground as they proceeded towards their destination. Sapphire tresses bobbing with her every step, those fancy ringlets springing almost hypnotically*
Valerian -> A magical dress that is tied to your life? That’s a new one. The simplest solution would be to go back then wouldn’t it…………but that’s what you’re running from. Sounds like a bad situation……………..hundreds of years? You don’t look old. Shouldn’t you be…ya know, wrinkly or something? *He shrugged, not really expecting an answer* The best way to learn it is to experience it. Hit one of the………nicer, taverns get a little drunk and learn to act that way. Look lady, I helped you out because I’m not a fan of the helpless or innocent getting picked on, but I’m not a charity case. *He started to walk away until she mentioned hiring him. He mulled the though over in his head, given the way she was dressed what she had to sell would probably go for a good chuck of coin around here, something he was defiantly NOT planning on telling her.* And what exactly would you need me to do? Play tour guide and body guard? *He cocked his eye as there was a fairly audible clack of armor, as if someone was jumping from a high point. He gave a slight smirk and a soft chuckle.* How many people do I know that would JUMP while wearing armor? How do you keep finding me?
Amaar -> -Amaar smirked before stepping out from behind his cover- Not many people are as intuitive as yourself. -He chuckles some, walking towards them both- Everywhere I go...There is you...And some women. -he smirks putting his hand on Val's shoulder- It's good to see you breathing my friend. -he looks towards Aurah and bows slightly- M'lady..I hope your aware of the presence you keep. -he smirks again- This man is a scoundrel. -slapping Val's shoulder a few times before removing his hand he smiles- The names, Amaar. It's a pleasure.
Aurah -> *This was not going in the direction she was hoping. Then again, nothing was after her departure from home. A more creased frown met her comely features, and then a scoff burst from her lips. They parted to utter words of resignation when she heard the clatter of metal. Eyes narrowed in suspicion when the source revealed itself, dropping the threads in her grip to free it. Just in case she needed to defend herself. Her mouth molded to utter an incantation before the air became more jovial. This man knew....the other guy. Had she really not gotten his name yet? That may not be necessary. He did not seem to warm to her offer. Her true nature was beginning to show a bit more. That frown persisted, marring her pretty face. The bow was met with a quick curtsey. Just enough to met tradition before she drew herself up proudly once more. Folding her arms then, casting her gaze off away from the two. Where was the best route to go. She had no idea where the inn was best if he was not going to help her there was no point staying in his company, was there? And his friend? She was not willing to retell her tale. She did not need the world knowing her woes.* Jezebelle. *Without even batting an eye did she give them the alias, it was different for every port. Last time it was Yuna*
Valerian -> Everywhere you go is me because you’re following me. *He smirked and patted Amaar’s hand as it was placed on his shoulder.* It is good to see you alive as well my friend. Though I’m not sure she’d be any better off in your company………though scoundrel………I do like that. I could be the first professional scoundrel. *He laughed.* And believe it or not, she knows exactly what I am…….and it seems that’s what she needs. As you can see…..she doesn’t exactly blend in and she’s looking to change that. Avoid talking about the dress though……..it’s complicated. *He looked at her as she gave her name and cocked an eyebrow, obviously a fake name. Either that or her parents were fools, no one would name a child that with knowing what else it stood for, but it wasn’t his problem. If she didn’t want him or Amaar to know her name that was her business.* So, does that mean we’re done talking about potential employment? ‘Cause if we are, there are some better places I could be……..no offense to either of you, but I don’t enjoy standing in the streets.
Amaar -> -He smiled when the women offered her name he noted the shift in tone in her voice and the general uncomfertable stance she held- I'm sorry am I intruding here? -he glanced at Val and back to Aurah. Nodding slightly as Val spoke of the women's ability to "fit in" he shrugged some- I ask nothing of you M'lady. You don't want to share with me I understand. It is a smart woman who keeps to herself in these parts. Although I will say my intentions are not with malice. I actually seek the same thing you do. - He smiled- Not being noticed is at the top of my list. -laughing some he stepped back from the two and leaned on a crate sort of out of the way in the shadows- May I suggest we retire this elsewhere? That is if you would have me. Sitting with my thoughts gets quite boring after a few months.
Aurah -> *Was she some joke now?! A grumble she did give, puffing her cheeks just so* Youre hired. *Aurah uttered to Valerian.* Aurah, Aurah Tomarah is my name. I would like for the two of you not to repeat that. Got it? In other company my name is....by the spell! *She swore, realizing the alias she gave them may give more means for concern than her real one* Not...not Jezebelle! Merlin's beard! Hagura! Hagura is my name in other company. *Her voice was soft and her accent was slightly subdued, trying her best to forget her noble past. It was hard though, one of the few things she had left of home she had to hide. But it had to be that way if she wanted to live long enough to lift this curse and figure out a way to get him off her back. That man. Should she be flattered he was trying so hard? No, she did not love him. She did not love anyone. Save Bura. And she had not seen her for a while. Dear Bura. The thought of her missing friend made her features crease sadly. A sigh then, flicking her gaze upon the two.* Yes, as your....friend has informed me these streets are rather unsavory. The less attention the better. Please, lead the way. *She tried to sound nicer, but it was quite difficult. Back home she did not need to depend on anyone, she could do everything on her own. Even while living in the lap of luxury she did not utilize the servants. She was a very independent person. And she liked it that way, another reason this whole prospect of letting this man rule her life was not something she was willing to do. That, and what came with it. She had heard the stories* Do you mind telling me your friend's name? *Coming back to the present, trying her best to smile. It was not something she did often, so it looked as if her face was twitching. She quit and let her features fall to nothing.* I have just put him in my employ and I do not know his name. By the spell!
Valerian -> *He laughed again and walked over to Amaar and gave a wrap on his armor with his knuckles.* Stealth and armor don’t go very well together. Though from what I remember of your fighting……….I’d suggest getting some more armor. You two can do what you wish. But I’ve got no plans to stay in the street. You’re welcome to come up into my room if you so wish…….there should be enough room to stay comfortable with three people in there. *He turned to her when she finally spoke her true name and bowed slightly.* ………Hagura? *He looked over to Amaar.* I think we can come up with a better name than that……..unless you’d care to go by that rather unattractive name, which is fine with me. *He opened the door to the inn and waved them both in*
Amaar -> -Amaar smirked some- The armor is cultural. As for my fighting skills, we will "discuss" that at a later date. -laughing some he followed Val, looking towards Aurah it was easy to tell she was offended rather quickly and obviously not used to relying on others, Only out of nessesity, Amaar thought that she held their company- He hasn't told you his name?..-Amaar chuckled some and looked to Val- Did you lose your manners over the past few months my friend? -he shook his head some and before he entered the Inn stopped and extended his arm forwards motioning for her to go ahead of him.- His name is Valerian, don't let him fool you. He's a softy. -walking in behind her he stopped at Val's side- Be nice. -slapping his shoulder he shrugged some- I'm a little curious why she feels she needs your protection? Is there someone after her? Or is it simply that she is a pretty lady that can't handle her own? -shrugging some he sighed- Whatever the case may be I do hope it involves some excersize. These old legs need some working out.
Aurah -> *Yes, Hagura was not a very good name. She was never very creative with the names. It was strange really. She could lie about anything else, but her name? It was always a task. Once in a while she could come up with a good one, but the other times they were horrible. Those were the times she gave no name at all. Sometimes she thought though that no matter what kind of name she gave he would find her.* Inside would be best, yes. Anything to get off these streets. And maybe...some nourishment. *An audible rumble of her stomach then, as if in agreement. She had not eaten in a day or two. Another possible reason for her continuing shift in moods. But this was nothing. Once she had gone a week without sustenance. Her feet made to follow after Valerian, who she now knew the man to be, until Amaar's little wisecrack made her stop. It was a joke, she knew it. But it still got a rise out of her nonetheless, upon her heel slightly did she turn. No words were uttered, only a very icy glare. A few seconds, then cut to another attempt at a smile. This was a wee bit more successful. It still looked forced though, kinda creepy.* Theres...nothing wrong with a little extra protection...is there? *Indicating his armor, that smile attempting to grow larger. Instead it just twitched again. She dropped it. Why does she bother? She had not successfully smiled since home. Her father did use to love her smile. Pivoting back towards the direction indicated by Valerian she resumed her steps towards their haven for the night. That empty stomach of hers giving another whine of dismay.*
Valerian -> Well then…………I got nothing for that. *He lead the pair of them up to the second floor to his room which, while was spacious enough to fit the three of them, only had a bed, table and two chairs in it. He held the door open for the pair of them and carefully closed it behind them.* Have I forgotten my manners? No, I haven’t forgotten then, I just haven’t had an excuse to use them. Besides, it’s not like she’s bothered to actually ask what my name is. *He smirked.* You’ll have to ask her that yourself. She is running from someone…….has something to do with that dress of her, cursed. For anything else, you’ll have to ask her. *He motioned to the chairs, offering them to his guests.* Have a seat, I’ll see what they’ve got down in the kitchen. I warn you, it won’t be fancy, but it’s good. And try to avoid faking a smile if you can, or get better at it. A good con man will see though that in a heartbeat. *He gave them both a nod and exited the room.*
Amaar -> -Amaar chuckled some looking down to his armor- Touche. -he smiles at her, even though he could tell she was desperatly trying to keep a smile on her face he shook his head- What is wrong Hagura? It's obvious your uncomfortable. -nodding at Val as he left the room he shooted after him- A nice good Ale would be nice!...-laughing some he took a seat looking towards Aurah- I'm not going to bombard you with questions. I just want to know what is making you so uncomfertable. You need not play a part in our company Aurah. -he removed his cloak and placed it on the back of the chair, crossing his legs he leaned back some- How about I tell you my tale? -He too a deep breath- It's not much of one really. I know I am not from this planet. I know I was sent here for some reason, what I havn't been able to find out quite yet, For a while I allied myself with the rebles on this planet. Fighting for thier cause. Until I came across a member of my species, just as lost as I was. We fought together for quite some time. -he sighed some- I haven't seen him since. -Amaar exhaled a deep breath and shrugged some- But...Hey! what do you do...-he shook his head some almost like he was trying to erase an image from his mind like an Etch-a-sketch-
Aurah -> *That milky epidermis gave a noticable reddening upon the observation that she was not good at smiling. She knew that! He did not need to point it out! Maybe she should seek the employment of this other gentleman instead. No, all that armor would certainly draw attention. She did not need any more of that. After throwing a glare in the departing direction of Valerian she reluctantly listened to Amaar's troubles. Was he trying to coax her into revealing more of her past? If that was his aim he would fail. She had already divulged enough to Valerian. Though this man was his friend she could not risk it.* Why do you not go looking for this friend? *Inquired she, crossing one leg over the other and dusting off what she could of the street from her gown, grumbling a bit*
Valerian -> *His voice could be heard muttering something in response to Amaar’s request, though it wasn’t clear what he had said exactly. He headed down to the kitchen and wasn’t surprised in the least that he didn’t come across anyone else. Sometimes he wondered how they kept this place running since he seemed to be the only one that was there for any period of time. He returned after not too long, carrying three plates piled with some sort of meat and a pile of what looked like potatoes.* Hope I didn’t miss too much. *He set a pair of plates down on the table and looked at the pair of them, feeling like he just walked into a winter storm.* Ok…….obviously I didn’t miss anything important. *He cleared his throat and took a seat on the bed.*
June 7, 2013
Amaar -> -Amaar smiled some- I did look for him...For a while...But like me, not an easy person to find if he doesn't wish to be found. -smirking some he looked down at his armor- Oh, don't let this fool you. We are pretty light on our feet when the need arises. -As Val came back into the room he shrugged some- Didn't miss much. I'm just trying to find out why Aurah is so uncomfortable around us. Or me. -He shrugged- That and a quick tale of my backstory to try and get the proverbial "Ice" broken. To no avail I assume. -he glanced to Aurah and shrugged some, looking back to Val he nodded some- Thank you for the food my friend. -Noticing there was no Ale he sighed some smiling to himself. He picked up a small peice of meat and popped it into his mouth. Swallowing he looked to the two of them- So this is exciting eh?..-he chuckled-
Aurah -> *Aurah was surprised that her mouth did not water or her body did not lunge at Valerian as he presented the food towards them. She kept her composure, nodding her head in appreciation. Neglecting the smile this time.* Thanks ever so much. Your hospitatlity is much appreciated. *Another nod, again forgetting the grin. The plate was placed in her lap and she promptly dug in. At least for tonight she was not forgetting her manners. Though starving she took her time to savor the meal. Yes, one could see it was going to take a while to get her to forget who she was and blend in with the occupants of this slummy port. A long while* I apologize for my lack of warmth, Amaar. And to you as well, Valerian. Your companionship is a welcome change. Its not that I have not had people give me lodgings or meals, or their kindness. But usually after finding out Im running from someone they tend to get a little...wary. I guess I would be more at home here than any place if it wasnt for this accursed gown. *She spoke between forkfuls, ensuring her mouth was empty before anything was uttered* I do hope our arrangement of half my earnings will suffice, Valerian. Hopefully itll be enough to get you more respectable lodgings.
Valerian -> They didn’t have your ale. So the food will just have to do. *He smirked and gave a soft chuckle.* Since you didn’t’ seem to get anywhere why don’t we find out exactly what you wish to accomplish. Blending in we understand, is there anything else? *He nodded in response to her thanks.* Hell, the only reason most people help each other out around here is because we’re all running from something in one way or another. *He nodded.* We’ll see……….depending on how much your earning are half may be a bit excessive. But don’t worry about my situation. As much as I appreciate your concern, taking care of yourself should come first. I’ve lived in far worse conditions than these. Though I wouldn’t be against having a fancy room if you manage to get yourself a nice big castle or something. Maybe Amaar could even get a place on the roof since he likes hanging out up where people can’t see him. *He let out a laugh at the very thought of the situation.*
Amaar -> -Amaar smiled as she apologized to them- Aplology Accepted, however not needed. I only wanted to know if I was making you unconfortable, so I could remove myself from your presence. -He smiled some and nodded as Val spoke- Yes, you mentioned you were running from someone? And this curse. Is there anything we can do to eleviate some of that burden you seem to carry. Very well I may add. Your smiles arn't as bad as Val made them sound. - a small wink and a chuckle was given before looking back to Val- I missed your "sharp" wit my friend. Remind me to dull it a tad later. -he laughed and stretched his arms above his head then standing from his chair. He moved over towards the window and took a deep breath having a look down the street- Fairly quiet out there now. Must be something going on. -he turned back to the two of them- Your not in any trouble are you. -He was obviously speaking to Val but didn't make that known for whatever reason- Because i have a group of Millitary Police making it's way right for this Inn. -he looked back out the window seeing the men more clearly now he relized why no one was on the streets now- We are the only ones in here correct?
Aurah -> *Aurah gently placed her fork upon her plate. A sigh. Lowering her head to the meal in her lap. Thinking. How much did should she tell them? She was pretty certain Val would not care, or would he? Well it was obvious Amaar wanted to know more. A look between the two of them, guaging their expressions of anticipation. And then she heard it, or didnt hear it. Before Amaar had mentioned it she had noticed it. It was eerily silent now. Her body became taunt. Her fingers instinctively reaching for her bag, slowly* Friends of yours? *To Amaar of course, she knew for the most part that Valerian was avoiding any law enforcers of any sort. She was no condition for a fight right now. After days of travel she had severely depleted her supply. The farther she traveled the less out of his reach she would be right? How could she be so stupid as to forget about the troubles she would face here? Cause she did not know here, thats why. Into her bag did she reach, relieving it of a tiny glass orb. Inscribed upon its smooth surface where letters of unknown origin, but when she closed her grasp around the sphere it did not shatter as its appearance would suggest. Instead it morphed around her fingers fluidly, like living matter. Slithering and writhing around her pretty fingers until it slipped into her palm, lengthening and gaining color. Longer and longer it grew until her staff had its full form. A few inches taller than she was, with a spiraled end. A jewel hanging in the middle, shaped into a star. It never stayed the same color for more than a few seconds, but the hue was rather dull. This was not good. The scoff she emitted portrayed her feelings well* Please tell me one of you are expecting someone. *Hopeful, but doubtful*
Valerian -> That’ll be up to you to try and find out, since you seem to have sort of hired yourself out as well. *He chuckled.* My sharp wit? You want sharp I show you the end of my blades. Those are the sharpest things I’ve got……….wait…….shit. Not a word! *He looked towards the window as Amaar mentioned something about Military Police.* Uhhh, I don’t think so? At least not any more than I usually am. Nothing that warrants them. Why, did YOU do something? And yeah, I think we’re the only ones in here. Might be another tenant or two sleeping in a room………why? *He looked over after she had finished forming the staff not having noticed anything she was doing* Whoa, where the hell did you get that thing from? Wait….probably magic. And well……..I could tell you that we’re expecting someone……but I’d be lying. LUCKILY, I’ve get a nice little escape route for JUST such occasions. *He whistled nonchalantly and strolled to the back to the room and pushed the bed forward and pulled a section of the wall off revealing a crawl space big enough for one person at a time to fit through.* Shall we?
Amaar -> -Amaar shook his head- They sure arn't friends of mine, but I'v ebeen minding my own buisness for months now. -He rolled his shoulders back and stretched his neck to either side- They have no reason to be here. Must have seen us come in and were bored. -he smirked some jumpping on the spot for a few seconds his hands by his side started to glow a faint purple as he lifted his hands towards the door it also started to glow a purple colour- If they open the door they are all going to be pinned to the celing. I'll have to hold them there so I'll follow your lead. -he stopped jumping and looked back to Val.- You guys go ahead. I'll hold them off long enough for you to escape. -he slammed his fists together his boody glowing a faint golden hue the room started to heat up- Go! -Amaar could hear the group of of men running up the stairs any second now they would open that door.. He was hoping for a fight, but not while in someones home where he thought they were safe. The men burst through the door a few seconds later, the first two were instantly pinned to the celing before they could enter, however they started piling in behind the first two quickly, Amaar refused to unleash his attacks until the two of them were gone so he became quickly surrounded-
Aurah -> *Several cracks in her spine, a groan then. Smacking her lips, fingers sliding through disheveled blue follicles. Bedhead, one of the things that came with running away from home she was afraid. She could not find a cap that kept her hair tidy, so she had given up. Besides, the less she looked like nobility the better. With the thin sheets wrapped around her frame she emitted yet another groan, trying her best to wake up. Food, she needed food. And something to drink. That would do it. And then she had to set to selling her prized possessions. A shady place of some sort, where theives sold their wares as well. Yes, that would be best. A smile crossed her lips at the thought. Satisfied with her cleverness, chuckling.* Maybe Im getting better at this! *Bare feet settled on the bare floor, clutching the threadbare sheets tighter around her slender being. She would not need to bathe first. Hopefully Valerian would not come knocking so soon. She managed to get a room across the hall from him, thinking it would be best. Just in case. Just in case....*
Valerian -> *Valerian was already up and about, if you could call sitting at the table in his own room staring blankly at an open book “up and about.” He’d read through that book so many times that he almost recite it word for word if he had to. The streets outside were already bustling with activity even for the early morning. People out buying freshly delivered food and drunks stumbling out of various taverns as they woke and realized they weren’t where they should be. He reached out and carefully closed the book and looked out the window.* Another morning in “paradise” and it looks like it’s going to be exactly the same as every other day. Wonder if Aurah is up yet? *Getting up he left his room and headed downstairs to the sitting room of the inn and took a seat before the fireplace, which was still smoking slightly from the fire that had died sometimes during the night.*
Aurah -> *Valerian had possibly been in front of the smoldering flames for maybe twenty minutes or so before Aurah peeked her head in. Almost unrecognizable. She wanted to risk it today. The extravagant Victorian dress had been traded for a simple and shabby cloak. Patched and tattered, a far cry from what shes use to. Those tidy ringlets had been torn down and made straight, flowing over her shoulders and down her back. No makeup, no jewelry. Besides looking a little more kempt than most of the females along the port she could probably fit right in.* Ahem. Sorry to have kept you. *Under that poor brown cloak was hidden her bag, full of the items she was going to relieve herself of. It took her quite some hours to decide on which ones she would keep. It was a tough decision, but it had to be done. She had to face facts.* Lead the way. *Reluctantly, frowning gently. Naked nails clutched the satchel harder, the paint had been removed last night. Upon her toes as well. Small things she vowed to keep doing in order to remind herself who she has and where she came from, but if she were to keep hidden long enough to make a stand here then she would have to give it up.*
Valerian -> *He turned to look at her when she made her presence known.* Well, you already look more the part for surviving in this area. Good job with that. *He stood and walked around her once, giving her a full look over.* I guess we should be headed to a pawn shop or something. *He lead the way out the front door and into the street then stopped.* We should avoid the ones down by the docks, they’ll rob you blind and can get away with it since they usually deal with sailors and drunks that don’t know any better…….there’s a shop uptown we could venture so, as long as you don’t mind getting some odd looks. I’m still surprised a pawn shop can survive up town……..must be something more going on than they let on.
Aurah -> *A smile attempted to creep on her puckers, but alas it crumbled underneath a series of twitches. She did it find when she was alone! Why could she not do it in company?! Whatever joy she felt from the compliment were dashed, that frown resurfacing and deepening. The Caster did not leave Valerian's side. A little wary still about traveling no less than a few centimeters away. The cloak was drawn tighter on her person to keep the bag concealed from view. That, and the meager threads that were offered to her by the sisters was not something she wanted to parade in just yet.* Agreed. These are some of the few things I have from home. I would like to get the full amount they are worth. Especially since I will be giving you half the earnings. *The hood was thrown over head. Those features shadowed then.* If its all the same to you I would rather not look into that mystery. I just want to sell my things and leave. The...sooner we lighten the load the better. Unless...you have given a second thought to our agreement? *An arch of her brow, unseen of course unless he peeked underneath the hood to speak to her*
Aurah -> fine when*
Valerian -> Even if I wanted to look into whatever they’re doing on the side, there’s no profit in it, so it’s not worth our time. Though, I do have to ask one question about these items. Are they magical in any way? Because if they are, we’ll need to find somewhere else to sell them. The shops around here wouldn’t know what a magical item is worth……….hell, neither would I. *He stopped and turned to face her, awaiting an answer, obviously not seeing any point in continuing this little venture if it was going to just be a waste of time.* And no, I haven’t changed my mind, believe it or not, I honor my word.
Aurah -> A mercenary that honors his word. How rare. *Did Aurah tease, giving a half smile. It was the best she could do. And it looked somewhat decent. Luckily the hood hid the sad attempt.* Oh dear Merlin no! *The witch gasped upon the implication, ceasing in her tracks as he had.* I cannot sell any items of magical property! That would be dangerous and unwise. Theres no telling what someone here would do with those items! *Scoffing* Im a little wiser than that. Give a gal more credit please. These are just things my father gave me to sell. They were...my mother's. But thats in the past now. Lets get going! Im famished and I will become rather unwelcome company soon.
Valerian -> Yeah, while it may be a rarity, it helps bring in the bigger jobs. People are willing to pay more when your reputation says you won’t stab them in the back the second you’ve been paid. *Just from her initial reaction he had gathered that none of the items were magical even without her explination.* You might be wiser than that, but a majority of the people around here aren’t. If it’s magical people will pay more for it which means they can drink more. Thinking of potential consequences isn’t something that’s on the minds of the typical person that ventures to the pawn shop. *He stopped before a simple shop that just had a sign that said “Shop” on it.* I hope you at least know the value of those items so you’ve got a place to start haggling. Just be sure to tell the guy I sent you, you’ll get a fair deal.
Aurah -> hat?! You arWent going in with me?! *Clearly alarmed, her eyes widening in dismay. Back and forth did her tresses sway as she shook her head in fear* Oh no! No no no! You have to come in with me! Do not let me go in there alone! *The terror upon her face was clear, almost pityful. Pearly whites latching into her bottom lip.* Please do not let me go in there alone! Ill...Ill cook for you! Yes! Just.... *She realized how silly she sounded. Pathetic even. Could she not even go into a pawn shop without help? Did he really have her so strung up? No! No he did not! A calming sigh did pass, a couple of deep breaths afterwards* Nevermind, I can do it. Just...would you stay out here please?
Valerian -> *He cocked an eyebrow in surprise, clearly not expecting that sort of response from her.* Look…..this should be a simple task. If you’re going to have trouble doing something like this you’re going to be serious trouble when it comes to other things you’re going to probably have to do later on. *HE couldn’t help but smile as she almost began pleading with him for help. He slowly nodded as she finally regained what composure she had and changed her mind.* That was the plan. I’ll be here unless I hear commotion or a scream from inside.
Aurah -> No, no that will to obvious. Here... *From her satchel she withdrew a rather ornate looking card. It glowed with a soft light, a strange energy emitting from its thin surface. She turned it about to reveal a rather surprising image, her own person. Attired in the dress he had met her, standing confidently with the staff from the night before in hand. Upon the bottom was scrawled her name in gold, and other titles in a language Valerian probably didnt understand.* ...keep this with you so long as you are in my employ. If I am in distress itll glow hot. Im sure no one would think that I would give this to you. Its...too important. So, with this we will be one step ahead.
Aurah -> too obvious*
Valerian -> *He stared at the card she offered him for a few seconds.* You’ve got a magical card that turns hot when you’re in trouble? Seems like this is something that happens to you often. *He turned his gaze from the card up to her and shrugged before sticking the card into a pocket.* Don’t you think it might be a problem to have your name on a card with your image on it? Sort of negates the reason for hiding who you are doesn’t it? Unless the card blows up or something when someone you didn’t give it to touches it……….its not going to blow up in my pocket is it?
Aurah -> That card is important, yes. But...its also the only one. When one of my people reach a certain status that card is made for us and is only to be given to someone we trust. It holds many secrets that I will relay upon you after this transaction is completed. All you really have to know is..that card is my life. So no, it will not be exploding in your pocket. *A slow shake of her head then. He had as much to learn about her as she did about living in this low rent town. Well, depending on how long she would be needing him anyway. She drew her hood further on her face and gave him a nod* I will not be long, I hope. *A pull of her mouth in a small smile. She was getting better. It too met the same fate as the others with a twitch and a fall after a few seconds though.* Wish me luck.
Valerian -> Sounds like your people, whoever they are, have a complicated society. *His gazed dropped down to the pock he had stuck the card into.* Something that important and you’re entrusting it to someone you barely know? *He gave a soft chuckle.* It’s a good thing I found you and not someone else. But yeah, good luck with the transaction. If all else fails you could just murder the guy behind the counter and rob the place blind. *He shrugged, but there wasn’t a hint of a smile on his face as he spoke, giving hint that what he had said was something that happened fairly frequently around the city.*
Aurah -> *Aurah remarked on nothing he said, for she had nothing she could say. Why was she entrusting it to him? She had no choice? She would like to think so. And as far as killing the man and robbing the place? She had never murdered anyone in her life and she would not start now. There could be honest end to all this, right? Bringing her wits about her, drawing herself upwards, she ventured inside. A flick of her eyes around her surroundings. Looking for survelliance perhaps? Or gazing upon wares that others may have sold in desperation? Was she the only sucker? Hopefully not. Licking her lips she focused ahead. Clutching the robe tighter* Hello? *Trying her best not to sound frightened, but proud. Like her old self. Where was that woman? Back at home, thats where.*
Valerian -> *As she spoke an elder gentleman stepped out from a back room behind the counter. He was fairly unremarkable save for what could only be described as an overly large nose on which sat a pair of glasses. He took a minute or two to fully settle himself behind the counter before turning his gaze to her with a warm smile.* Well now, welcome to my little shop. And what exactly can I do for you? Are you looking to purchase or sell?
Aurah -> *Rapidly blinking* Uhm yes...Im here to sell. *Clearing her throat in the pause, putting herself up more confidently* Valerian said this may be the best place. So, Ive come to bless you with my wares. *A lie she almost told about stealing them off some wealthy unwaries but she decided not to embellish too much. There was no telling who was watching. A sweep of her eyes over the small store once again, making sure there was nothing she could trade to start her off on an even better footing. That, and she could not put her finger on it but there was something in this place that was making her...feel something familiar. As if there was something here that she knew of* Can you help me? *Shaking off the feeling, putting her mind back on task*
Valerian -> Oh, that boy sent you over here did he? Guess he wants to make sure you actually get a good deal on things. And I guess I can help you. If you’d care to actually show me the item or items you wish to sell young lady then we might actually have a place to start. Or if you’d prefer, though I wouldn’t recommend it, I could quote you one price of everything and just make a trade. Maybe the price I offer is worth a lot more than what you’re selling and you make off good. Or maybe it’s less and I make off good. It’s up to you.
Aurah -> *There it was a again! What was it? Was he here? Or one of his spies? Was her intuition trying to keep her from being killed?* Im sure nothing you could quote me would be enough for what Im about to show you. *A flick of her brows upwards and a smirk to her lips. With a flourish did she slip the satchel from her shoulder and pour the contents of it upon his counter. A mountain of gold necklaces, broaches and rings glittered and gleamed before him. Not plated, but the real deal. Some pearls and emeralds dotted the auroral heap. And to believe she had a little more back in her room. But those she would not sell. No, those were certain to be noticed by him if he came snooping around. The jewelry before the shopkeep could belong to any noble. Another reason she thought it fine to part with them. The pearls and emeralds were met with more reluctance, but she knew she would fetch a pretty penny for them.* Well? What do you say? Can I dump these off on you?
Valerian -> *His eyes widened as he watched her drop the pile of valuables on the counter before him, clearly he wasn’t expecting such items.* My, my, my, it is a good thing you were steered this way. Any shop in the lower parts of town and the guy behind the counter would have tried to kill you for this lot. *He opened one of the drawers and pulled out a jewelers lens, and set his glasses on the table before affixing the lens to his right eye. He carefully plucked the gems from the pile and set them down in a line before him. He picked up the first one and held it between a large flame and the lens and slowly twirled it around as he examined it for clarity and cracks.* It has been quite a while since I’ve seen gems such as these. *He repeated the process with each of the gems before pickling the pearls from the pile and carefully examining them.* Well………I don’t exactly have a market for these things, but if you’re willing to wait a few day……while you hold onto the gems of course, I’m sure I could find a buyer for them, though I wouldn’t be able to set a price for you. The jewelry………*He paused as he scratched his chin and mumbled, doing some calculations in his head.* Give ya 1500 gold pieces for half the lot, your pick as to which. I’d like to take more, but I’m afraid that’ll just about clean me out of what I’ve got in reserve. *He laughed.* Shops like this are used to people coming in with one or two items of……..questionable, value. Not such treasures. Do be careful when you go dumping things around on peoples counters my dear.
Aurah -> Well, the gentleman that put me in this direction looked to be of a trustworthy sort. *Still, she should not have been so hasty with showing him her wares. Little by little it should have done. She may have gotten more that way. But, this seemed like a good a deal as any. Probably the best she was going to get. And she give him which ones she wanted for 1500? Sold! She would fetch more for the gems when he found a buyer. But would that buyer be the one she was avoiding? A very slim chance. She had gotten several days out of his reach. By the time he caught up surely she would be ready to face him. And the first time to attaining that courage is to take some risks. A nod of her head in finality* You have a deal sir. * She picked out a few of the necklaces and a broach, certainly befitting the offer of 1500.* I will come back in a week to resume business. *Another sweep of her eyes along his shop, slower this time. Gradually until she spied a small cage. It looked rather worn, anything inside could have simply bent the bars maybe and escaped. But the prisoner currently did not take advantage of this. It was a rather large puff ball. White in color, breathing gently. Sleeping.* Excuse me...but how much for that...thing there? And what is it?
Valerian -> Very well, very well. *He smiled and clapped his hands together once.* Well do wait here while I retrieve your funds. And I do hope I will have a buyer for those gems, but I won’t promise you that I will, as much as I would love to be able to. *He departed into the back room once more and silence fell over the building as if where he had gone to was out of hearing range, even though he appeared not to much later with a decently sized sack that rattled when he walked with it.* It may take some time, but I do recommend that you count the payment. I believe I got the correct amount, but everyone makes mistakes and it’s bound to happen at my age. But more importantly, it’s a lesson you should learn for dealing with other less reputable shops. They will act insulted when you count it, but always do. *With some effort he hefted the bag into the counter.* Also there’s a shrinking charm on that bag, at the owner will, that would be you, it can drink down to something that will fit in your pocket, but the amount it can carry will stay the same. *As she asked about the white puff ball he turned his attention to it.* Oh that? Most of the time I forget it’s even there. It showed up one day so I put it in the cage, wasn’t sure if it was dangerous or not you see……….and it’s just been there since. I place some food there for it every few mornings……..which I guess has been enough since it hasn’t died. I’ve got not market for that. If you want it, please take it. All it’s doing is taking up space.
Valerian -> shrink*

Aurah -> once a*
Valerian -> *He chuckled.* This lot has probably never heard that word before.
*An arch of her brow, unseen of course unless he peeked underneath the hood to speak to her*
Aurah -> fine when*
Valerian -> Even if I wanted to look into whatever they’re doing on the side, there’s no profit in it, so it’s not worth our time.
Aurah -> too obvious*
Valerian -> shrink*
